Sports Massage
Sports massage is a series of techniques such as frictions, stretching, kneading and sometimes deep pressure used to relieve tension and knots within the body, often caused by repetitive action or intense physical activity.
It is not only for competitive athletes, more commonly people who sit for long periods are often in need of this treatment, as their muscles can become compromised from being in a fixed, suboptimal position for long periods.
A common misconception is that sports massage is painful! When often it can feel quite intense, it should not have you wincing in pain. I like to treat people with a slow but deep pressure, this gives the nervous system time to integrate the treatment and allows the body to open.
Is sports massage superior? It’s not, however, when you book a sports massage you are really choosing a therapist with an in-depth knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and a higher level of training. This can result in a better treatment.
